Creating employment opportunities
Granting of the initial consents took a number of years and the development activity stalled from 2008 through to 2013 as a consequence of the global recession. Since the start of 2013 however, over 3,200,000 sq.ft. of logistics and manufacturing units have been constructed for a range of major occupiers. These comprise Brakes, Hermes Parcelnet, Travis Perkins, Asda, The Hut Group, Plastic Omnium, and most recently Amazon, Dominos Pizza, and Haydock Commercial making Omega the pre-eminent logistics development in the North West of England.
The development’s first speculative development, funded by London Metric, and in excess of 350,000 sq.ft. was completed in 2017 and was successfully prelet to Amazon. Following this successful development we have recently secured funding from Mountpark to speculatively develop 750,000 sq.ft. of logistics space spread over 4 buildings. Practical Completion is scheduled for November 2018.
Creating a new community
The development as a whole will be set within a network of vibrant landscaped woodland, parkland, and wildlife areas including a 35-acre “Green Heart” at its core providing high amenity space for all. A new Primary School has been constructed and will serve the 1,100 residential units which will be developed over the next 8–10 years. Miller Homes have commenced construction of Phase 1 totalling 200 units and Redrow have just started Phase 2 totalling 247 units.
