Barnsley Miller Partnership Limited pre-funded Westgate with Newfound Properties Ltd and pre-let the office scheme to Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council.
Extending to some 65,500 sq ft (6,085m²) over 5 storeys, the purpose built offices are in the town's civic district "Westgate". The building was renamed ‘Westgate Plaza One’, and was the first completed project in the ‘Remaking Barnsley’ initiative.
Delivered on time and budget, Westgate Plaza One achieved a BREEAM rating of "Excellent". The building benefits from a number of sustainable technologies including: rainwater harvesting for showers and WCs, mixed mode ventilation and most notably a 500kW biomass boiler to provide heating, which it is anticipated will save around 270 tonnes of CO² a year compared with a gas fired boiler.
