The freehold of Market Gates Shopping Centre was acquired for c. £33.25 million at the end of 2005, in conjunction with Centenary Asset Management.

The 152,000 sq ft (14,200sqm) covered shopping centre provided prime retailing within the town offering a good mix of retailers.

A 78,000 sq ft extension was completed in 2008, and pre-lets were secured with both Debenhams and New Look.  

The centre now boasts over 40 shops with a total retail floor space of 230,000 sq ft (21,375m²) and a 500 space refurbished car park.

The tenant line up consists of independent retailers and leading high street names including Boots, Wilkinsons, Dorothy Perkins, F Hinds, Blue Inc, Claire’s Accessories and Game.

With an average weekly footfall in excess of 107,000, consideration is being given to further re-modelling/redevelopment.
