Premier Inn Joins Line-Up at Pacific Quay

Premier Inn at Pacific Quay

Miller/CTP (Pacific Quay) Limited has contracted to sell its 2 Pacific Quay site, Glasgow, to Premier Inn Hotels Limited, for £1.7 million.  The hotel operator has submitted planning consent for a 180-bed hotel on the 2.9 acre site.

The new proposed six storey hotel will be located on the South side of the River Clyde, next to the BBC Scotland building and directly opposite the SECC.  The plans also see the provision of a new public space which will link Bells Bridge to Pacific Quay, resulting in a pedestrian route from the SECC to the hotel site.

Pamela Grant, Miller/CTP (Pacific Quay) Limited, said: "We are delighted to have concluded a conditional land sale to Premier Inn for the 2 Pacific Quay site.  The sale firmly positions Pacific Quay in its final development stages.  Discussions are underway with interested parties for the two remaining sites, 3 Pacific Quay and the Rotunda.  Once occupiers or owners have been secured for these two sites, the regeneration of Pacific Quay, which occupies the former Glasgow Garden Festival site on the banks of the River Clyde, will be complete.

"Pacific Quay is a fantastic site and has become the media hub of Glasgow, being the chosen headquarter location for both BBC Scotland and the Scottish Media Group.  Premier Inn will also benefit from the site's close proximity to the SECC and the Armadillo and I am confident the hotel operator will thrive in its new location."

The larger Pacific Quay development now plays host to the Glasgow Science Centre, IMAX Cinema, The Millennium Tower and The Scottish Criminal Records Office.

Kevin Murray, Senior Acquisition Manager for Whitbread Hotels and Restaurants, who is responsible for Premier Inn's expansion in Scotland, said: "As Premier Inn expands right across the UK, growing our range of hotels in Scotland is a key priority for us.  We're looking to increase the 49,000 UK bedrooms we have today to 65,000 bedrooms by 2016 so securing excellent new locations like Pacific Quay is fundamental to our expansion plans and to giving our customers what they want.  We're delighted to be forging ahead on another outstanding development as we continue to use Whitbread's financial strength to underpin our ongoing expansion programme."
